April 2022 Calendar
Beloved in Christ,
Please find linked below our parish calendar for April 2022. In addition, I have included notes about important upcoming services/events for the month.
MF PREP: We have two Mediterranean Festival prep dates in April. On Saturday, April 9, at 8:00 pm we will be making meat pies. On Saturday, April 30, at 8:00 am we will be making baklawa sticks. Please note: no experience making these items is needed. We welcome and encourage all members of our parish, including newcomers, to come help.
CATECHISM CLASS: The April catechism class is scheduled for Sunday, April 10, at approximately 10:30 am. Catechumens and inquirers will be sent a link to join virtually the week before that class to us if they are unable to attend that day.
PRE-SANCTIFIED AT ST GEORGE: On Wednesday, April 13, the St George Cathedral community will host us for 9th Hour & Typika (6:00 pm), and Pre-Sanctified (6:20 pm). Following the divine services, they will host us for a Lenten meal provided by them.
HOLY WEEK SERVICES: Holy Week is by far the most important week in the life of the Church. It begins this year on Friday evening, April 15, and concludes with the celebration of Great & Holy Pascha (April 24 this year). I highly encourage all our parishioners to plan ahead and to prioritize church attendance during that week. While all services are important, the greatest priority should be given to the evening services, and most especially as we get to Holy Wednesday and beyond. These services are our annual opportunity to deeply reflect and meditate on the work of Christ for our salvation, and to celebrate His glorious Resurrection.
CHILDREN’S DAY AT THE CHANCERY: This fun event is back on the calendar for 2022! The date is April 16, and I believe the time will be 12:30 pm. I will pass along further details when they become available.
PANCAKE BREAKFAST: On Palm Sunday, April 17, following the Divine Liturgy, we will have a pancake breakfast to help raise funds for our 90th Anniversary fund with Wichita’s Littlest Heroes. Further details are forthcoming, but please mark your calendars now.
DECORATING THE CHURCH: On both April 16 (Lazarus Saturday) and April 23 (Great & Holy Saturday), we will have a light breakfast following Liturgy. We will then decorate the church for Palm Sunday and Pascha, respectively. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to join.
PASCHAL BANQUET: For this year’s Paschal Banquet, the parish will be providing fried chicken tenders. We ask all our parishioners to bring a side dish and/or dessert to share with others. As always, people are also welcome to bring their own basket of some of their favorite goodies.
AGAPE VESPERS: St George will once again host us for Agape Vespers on Pascha Sunday, April 24, at 1:00 pm. Please join us for this beautiful celebration of our Lord’s Resurrection!
Yours in Christ,
Fr Aaron
