(1) MED FEST PARISH WORK DAYS: Work days for our annual fundraiser begin early in 2022 with four Saturdays in January and early February. January 8 at 8 am we core, steam and trim cabbage – and then come back on January 15 (8 am)  to make cabbage rolls. Please see the linked calendar for additional work days. We are preparing more food than we have done in several years. Please come and help as much as you can. Enjoy some fellowship and help make this fundraiser our best yet!

(2) 90TH ANNIVERSARY – FOOD, FUN, & FELLOWSHIP: On the evening of January 9 at 5:00 pm we have a social event to help raise money for our 90th Anniversary. Please see the linked flyer for more details. We will have volleyball, bingo, and chili (including some to take home) available. The proceeds all go towards our special fund for Wichita’s Littlest Heroes.

(3) HUMANITARIAN SUNDAYS: On Sundays, January 2 and 9, we take a collection of food and/or money to help support our food pantry. For those who may not be aware, our parish offers a food pantry that is open each weekday from 1-3 pm. We serve hundreds of people each year through this pantry. (4) BISHOP BASIL ENDOWMENT FUND: Please see the link regarding information on the Bishop Basil Endowment Fund and the collection we take each year in December/January for his name day. Note that individual donations need to be made payable to St. Mary and earmarked “Bishop Basil Endowment” so we can send one check at the end of the collection from our parish. All donations must be received in the office or by the treasurer by Thursday, January 20. Thank you for your generosity in honoring our beloved Bishop Basil while supporting missions projects.

(2) CHRISTMAS FLOWERS: Each year for Christmas we beautify the church with flowers. If you would like to donate money towards the purchase of those flowers, please see the flyer. You may submit with that payment a list of people to be remembered at an upcoming service.

(3) CHURCH HALL OPEN FOR CHRISTMAS: Once again this year the Church Hall is open for people to celebrate after Divine Liturgy on Friday evening, December 24. The parish is not providing any food or beverage, but people are welcome to bring their own. As always, please be sure not to drink and drive and to shut the lights off if you are the last person to leave. Please also ensure the doors are locked behind you and you pick up any mess that you make.

(4) BISHOP BASIL ENDOWMENT FUND: Please see this link regarding information on the Bishop Basil Endowment Fund and the collection we take each year in December/January for his name day. (2) HMT NATIVITY PROJECT CONTINUES: The Humanitarian Ministry Team is sponsoring a Nativity Project to benefit the Child Advocacy Center of Sedgwick County. They will be collecting items from the Center’s wish list for the children in program. The Advocacy Center is the first place for children who are victims of abuse and before they are placed into a new home. The Agency also offers multiple services including medical, investigatory, mental health and advocacy for the children. Yesterday I appeared on a show called “Wellness in Time of Crisis” to discuss faith and spirituality in time of crisis, with a specific focus at times on the current crisis/civil war in Ethiopia. If you would like to view the show, it is available on YouTube (see the link below).

At that meeting we discuss and approve the 2022 budget and discuss important upcoming activities and events. We will be providing pizza and other food for those who are able to attend. (3) HELPING THOSE ON THE OUTSIDE LOOKING IN: Many of you remember Bill Marianes, who helped us develop and implement our Strategic Plan. On Wednesday, November 3, at 7:00 pm (immediately following our Bible Study), he will be hosting several distinguished guests to discuss homelessness. Given our work with Family Promise, our Food Pantry, and our work with the Lord’s Diner, I thought many of you would be interested in listening to the program.
