Other Notes

(1) LADIES NIGHT OUT: All of our women are invited to the Ladies Night Out tomorrow, 7/25. However, if you plan to attend, please RSVP to Robbie, rnamee@cox.net or 316-619-3366, by Monday Morning, July 25th, so they can let the restaurant know how many women to expect.

(2) PRISON MINISTRY AWARENESS SUNDAY: The Assembly of Bishops has designated Sunday, July 31, as “Prison Ministry Awareness Sunday.” As most of you know, I actively minister to multiple inmates in the state of Kansas. My ministry is supported and supplemented by our national prison ministry organization, Orthodox Christian Prison Ministry (OCPM). You can learn more about their work and/or make a direct donation here: https://theocpm.org/. In addition, we will have a collection tray on 7/31 for this purpose. Please note that our parish is intimately involved with OCPM, with Eric Namee on its Board of Trustees and Luke Taylor Gilstrap working for the organization. We will share more information about OCPM, its work, and how it has touched people within our own parish next Sunday.

(3) DORMITION FAST AND SERVICES: From August 1 through August 14, we observe the Dormition Fast in honor and preparation for the Great Feast of the Falling Asleep (“Dormition”) of the Mother of God. During this fast we will offer the PARAKLESIS (“SUPPLICATION”) SERVICE TO THE MOTHER OF GOD at 6:00 pm on August 3 and 10. We will celebrate the DORMITION itself on Sunday, August 14, with Great Vespers & Lamentations at 5:00 pm; and on Monday, August 15, with Divine Liturgy at 8:00 am. During the fast we abstain from meat, dairy, fish, wine, and oil. However, wine and oil are always allowed on Saturdays and Sundays. For the Great Feast of the TRANSFIGURATION (Saturday, August 6) fish, wine, and oil are allowed.

(4) TEACH ME THY STATUTES PODCAST: If you would like to listen to this week’s Teach Me Thy Statutes podcast (with Fr Aaron & Jason Ewertt), you can find it here: https://tmts.transistor.fm/.

(5) PASTORAL VISITS: If you would like a pastoral visit for any reason, or if you know of a family member/parishioner who needs a visit, please feel free to contact me via cell phone at 204-6725.

Yours in Christ,

Fr Aaron
