(1) LENTEN RETREAT: We look forward to welcoming Fr Stephen Freeman to serve as our retreat master for our annual Lenten Retreat on April 12 – 13. Everyone is welcome. Please feel free to invite family and friends. Details about Fr Stephen and the retreat topic and schedule can be found here (see attachment).

(2) LENT BEGINS: This year, Great Lent begins on Monday, March 18. As usual, Divine Services are scheduled at 6:00 pm each weeknight of the first week of Lent. Most other weeks, we will celebrate the services on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. During Great Lent, we fast from meat and dairy products on all days of the week. Following the Divine Liturgy for Annunciation on Monday, March 25, fish and wine are allowed.

(3) LORD’S DINER: We are volunteering with our brothers and sisters in Christ from St George Cathedral at the Lord’s Diner the 3rd Sunday of each month. In March, that will be TODAY, March 17. Volunteers do NOT need a food handler’s card, as was the case in the past. Anyone can volunteer. If you are interested, please contact Vicki Jones (vawj55@gmail.com).

(4) HOSTING ST GEORGE: We are hosting the St George Cathedral community on Wednesday, April 3, for the Pre-Sanctified Liturgy. Following that Liturgy, we will provide a meal for both communities. We need everyone’s help to ensure there is plenty of food to share. You can see the linked flyer for details.

(5) BELLES MAKING HOLY BREAD: The Belles will be making Holy Bread on Saturday, March 30, beginning at 7:30 am. In addition, they will begin preparing some of the food to be served for our joint Pre-Sanctified when we host the St George Cathedral community (Wednesday, April 3).

You may go to St Michael (4:30 pm) or St George (6:00 pm) instead. Fr John Baize will be serving Matins and Divine Liturgy as usual on Sunday, March 3.

(4) FORGIVENESS VESPERS: We celebrate Vespers with the Rite of Mutual Forgiveness on Sunday, March 17, at 3:30 pm, followed by an Ice Cream Social at Braum’s. Please note the earlier time than usual due to the Lord’s Diner (see note below) and the Dynamic Marriage class that will be meeting later that evening.

(2) FELLOWSHIP GROUPS FOR MARCH: I will soon be assigning the March fellowship groups. If you need to opt-out for March only, please let me know (those who have permanently opted out do not need to contact me again unless they decide they want to join the rotation). For those new to the parish, the fellowship group is an assignment of each participating family/individual with two other families/individuals for the month. The goal is for those three families/individuals to meet for a time of fellowship during the month. The time and place are completely up to the group to decide.

If you would like for your departed loved ones to be mentioned in prayer by name, please send their names to office@stmarywichita.org, bring a list of names to the parish office, or give us your names by phone no later than 12:00 pm on Tuesday, March 5.

(2) ORTHODOXY ON TAP: The next Orthodoxy on Tap event, which is primarily geared towards young adults, is scheduled for Sunday, January 14, from 5-8pm at Old School Tap House & Social in Kechi (210 East Kechi Rd). I will be the featured speaker (for about 20-30 minutes; the rest of the time is for fellowship). Come and enjoy some food and drink while we learn the Faith together. (1) BIBLE STUDY BEGINS JANUARY 10: We begin a weekly Bible study in January on Wednesday evenings at 6:00 pm. We will go through the readings of Great and Holy Week that we read each year during the services to help us better prepare for the Lenten/Holy Week/Pascha season.

(3) DYNAMIC MARRIAGE COURSE: Fr. Aaron and Kh. Gwen Warwick will once again facilitate a Dynamic Marriage course at St. Mary from February 18 – April 14. The interactive enrichment class meets in-person each Sunday at 6:00 pm at St. Mary. During the week between classes, couples will complete helpful assignments individually and as a couple. Couples must attend at least six of the Sunday classes to receive a completion certificate. A brief Preview Session to highlight the program will be hosted during Coffee Hour at St. Mary on Sunday, January 14. You may also contact Fr. Aaron (204-6725) or Gwen (214-5714) with questions about the class or to register. Registration deadline is Sunday, January 28. Cost is $150. Payment plans/scholarships may be available upon request.
